Northside’s most successful FIRST-EVER appearance at the Harvard Invitational Certamen Tournament this past weekend. Novice players Deena Al-Ali, Gina Jagminas, Suchith Karri, Richard Lam, Ruba Memon, Edewiss Ravell, and Camille Roberts; Intermediate players Younes Deiban, Sahithi Gangavarapu, Humayra Munshi, Vasim Patel, and Emma Williamson; and Advanced players Samir Al-Ali, Andres Cook, Jenny Lam, Mindren Lu, and Madeline Meade all traveled to Cambridge, MA — some by car and some by plane, along with one teacher and three parents — to compete against teams from some of the best public and private schools in New England, as well as some from Florida, Virginia, and even Wisconsin.
I am please to report that our Intermediate team made it to the finals, finishing 3rd overall among more than two dozen schools. Our Advanced team entered its semifinal ranked 1st among all schools at the tournament, only to lose an extremely close heart-breaker of a match. The team finished in 4th place overall. Finally, our Novice team — making its first appearance at one of these high-profile university tournaments — played extremely well, missing the semifinals by only a few points.
Please congratulate these indefatigable, passionate scholars when you see them. Their enthusiasm for learning about ancient things never ceases to inspire. Please also enjoy the photos!
