The One and Only

Salvete, omnes! This is Mr. Nifong’s eighth year on the Northside faculty, where he currently serves as World Languages Department Chair and teaches all levels of Latin. A member of the English Department, he occasionally teaches the freshman Humanities course as well. Mr. Nifong sponsors Northside’s Latin Club and Northside’s chapters of the Junior Classical League and the National Latin Honor Society. He also leads biennial Spring Break trips to Italy and Greece. Beyond the walls of Northside, Mr. Nifong is Co-Chair of the Illinois Junior Classical League, for whom he plans the Illinois delegation’s trip to the National Junior Classical League Convention each summer.

Mr. Nifong previously taught Latin and English for a number of years at high schools in the suburbs of Chicago, as well as a variety of Humanities- and law-related courses at The Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth and Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development. During the spring of each year, he now also co-teaches a Philosophy of Education course to undergraduates and graduate students in Northwestern’s School of Education. For the nine years immediately preceding his years at Northside, he practiced law at several large law firms in Washington, DC, and Chicago.

Mr. Nifong holds a B.A. in Classical Studies and Comparative Literature from Duke University, an M.A. in Classics from the University of Michigan, an M.S. in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University, and both a J.D. and LL.M. from the Duke University School of Law. In his time away from the classroom, he often appears in plays and musicals staged by theatres such as Circle Theatre of Chicago, Open Door Theatre of Oak Park, and Steel Beam Theatre of St. Charles.
